KCD2 Part 2: Istvan Toth, Closed Churches, and a Terrible Sign

This is my second post as I meander my increasingly bummed way through Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. ------------ Istvan Toth Istvan Toth is a recurring character central to Henry's development, featuring in both Kingdom Come: Deliverance and its sequel. In KCD2, the player learns that Toth has a deep bond with Erik, whom he raised from a young age. The narrative includes moments that suggest a potentially romantic dimension to their relationship, including a scene observed by Henry. When confronted, Toth provides his backstory with Erik (whom he groomed from childhood) and then engages Henry in a dialogue where he suggests they share similarities. This interaction occurs against the backdrop of Henry's own developing close relationship with Hans Capon. The game thus presents a complex relationship that some may interpret as crossing moral boundaries. Hans Capon Replaces Theresa in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

This is an early impression of a part of the game (about 30 hours in). As Kingdom Come: Deliverance II's (KCD2) romantic elements begin to emerge, the game places a noticeable emphasis on interactions with Sir Hans Capon. This feels similar to the persistent encouragement to engage with Theresa in KCD1. Just as repeated trips to Theresa advanced that storyline, Capon becomes a focal point of story beats and romantic development in KCD2. The game actively encourages this "romance," with clear cues like heart icons and suggestive dialogue. This dynamic isn't widely discussed in early reviews, and organic player discussions have been relatively sparse since launch. The Capon situation feels like a forced choice. I’ve been thinking lately about how the majority of people play games today. Between mobile titles and "Gacha" mechanics, monetization has become an incredibly complex science. In many ways, modern gaming is just a high-tech, digital version of the old arcade model, but looking back at the data, I was not prepared for just how massive those old machines actually were. Arcades (or the occasional lone cabinet in a mall) still exist today, but they are a ghost of the industry’s former self.
