It has taken several flops but we are finally seeing a change in approach from some game makers. Get familiar with the term "wider audience," because you will see it often in the next several years. I first noticed it when Bob Iger used it after several movie flops and ahead of "Inside Out 2," a movie that was a massive hit because it appealed to a... "wider audience."
Assassin's Creed: Shadows is in trouble and I see that Greedfall 2 might get stuck in purgatory because they both think a "wider audience" will just accept things. The Indiana Jones game just dropped news that puts it outside the ever-present "wider audience" as well.
I thought Banishers had a brilliant idea.
Where is this heading? More layoffs and course corrections.
There is a place for games with social messaging, but trying to shoehorn it into a AAA game will not work. 2020 money has dried up. Welcome to the "wider audience" era.
